Per-foot numbers by style
Angi breaks metal fencing down by style. Per linear foot, it lists flat-top fences at about $25 to $40, spear-top at $30 to $50 and picket designs at $40 to $70, with ornamental wrought iron reaching about $100. Material alone runs about $7 to $32 a foot for aluminum and $10 to $30 for steel.
What raises or lowers a quote
Length. Setup, travel and layout are spread over more fence on a longer job, so the per-foot price usually drops as the fence gets longer.
Height. A 6-foot rear fence uses taller panels and heavier posts than a 42-inch front fence. Westminster's height rules usually mean two heights on one job.
Gates. Every gate needs heavier posts and hardware. A driveway gate with an opener can cost as much as a long run of fence.
Corners and ends. Each corner and end post is a heavier post with its own footing.
Slope. Racking panels to follow a gentle slope costs little extra. Stepping panels on a steep yard means more cutting and more posts.
Ground. Rock, old concrete and tree roots slow down digging.
Removal. Taking out an old wood or chain-link fence and breaking out its concrete adds labor and haul-off.
Material. Aluminum, galvanized steel and welded solid iron are three different price levels for a similar look.
Permits. Westminster requires a building permit for fences over 30 inches. Permit fees depend on the city's fee schedule and project valuation.
What a written quote should list
- Fence material, panel style and height for each run.
- Post size and spacing, and footing depth.
- Each gate, with its width, hinges, latch and any opener.
- Removal and haul-off of the old fence.
- Who handles the permit and HOA drawing.
- How chips and rust are handled after install.
If two quotes differ a lot, compare these lines. The cheaper one often has lighter posts, shallower footings or no removal.
