A newer city with written fence standards
Broomfield became a consolidated city and county in 2001, and much of it was built after that. The American Community Survey (2020–2024) counts about 76,300 people and 33,200 housing units. About 9,560 were built in the 2010s and 7,680 in the 2000s, so more than half the homes in Broomfield are less than 25 years old.

Built before 1990 Newer
Newer neighborhoods mean planned unit developments. Broomfield's residential fence FAQ says PUD properties have their fence requirements in their site development plans, and in some PUDs a lower height or a specific style is required. Standard-zoned lots follow the summary rules: six feet typical maximum, front yard fences generally no more than 2.5 feet.
Permits: Broomfield's 30-inch rule
Broomfield requires a fence permit for any fence over 30 inches. Repairs and replacements need one too if they change structural parts or exceed 10 feet of fencing. The permit asks for the address, the fence location, material, color and height, with a site plan. Broomfield says reviews generally take one to two working days, and residential fences do not need an inspection. We prepare the site plan and drawing.
Pool gate hardwareCorner lots and sight triangles
On corner lots, Broomfield keeps a sight triangle clear for drivers. A fence inside that triangle must be 3.5 feet or lower, or 90 percent open, and Broomfield's FAQ gives wrought iron as an example of an open style. Open metal pickets are often the only practical way to fence that corner, which is one reason metal is popular on Broomfield corner lots.
Pools, open space and the US 36 corridor
Neighborhoods near Interlocken, along US 36 and north toward 144th Avenue include many lots backing onto open space and trail corridors, where an open aluminum or steel fence keeps the view. Pool and hot tub fences follow barrier rules for height and self-latching gates; see aluminum and pool fencing.
From Westminster to Broomfield
Our Westminster crews are in Broomfield regularly; the two cities share a long border along 120th Avenue and US 36. Driveway gate and opener work is common in larger-lot Broomfield neighborhoods, covered on the driveway gates page.
